Tucker has assembled a range of interviews with key figures in the history of Sino-American diplomacy. Divided into four historical periods, each section includes a brief introduction in which Tucker explains the key issues raised by the interviews and sets the scene for the interviewee's observations, assessments, and anecdotes. Among the many topics addressed in the interviews are the Korean War, Nixon's historic trip to China, the Vietnam War, Tiananmen Square, Taiwan, and Tibet. An appendix provides a chronology of important events pertinent to the study of Sino-American relations.
